JULY 5-6 LOS ANGELES TEACHING AND EVENT WEEKENDPASADENA, CASaturday, July 5The Harvest, Preparation and Application of Tibetan Herbal Medicine“Tibetan medical tantras state that there is not a single substance existing in nature that, once its properties are identified, cannot be used in some way to cure disease.” Tibetan medicine is one of the oldest complete medical systems in the world. Tibetan herbal medicine is comprised primarily of mixtures of herbal and mineral compounds, which are identified and harvested under very specific conditions based on the principles of plant growth according to the five elements. A thoroughly trained physician is trained to prepare these herbs and/or minerals by following the precise instruction of Tibetan medical texts, which often involve the recitation of prayers and mantras. |
Learn about the location, harvest and identification of some Tibetan herbs; their nature, properties and general medicinal qualities; and the process of producing medicine to be used in conjunction with Tibetan diagnostic techniques and treatments. These can revitalize and maintain health by means of bringing the various elements of the body back into balance. These teachings will inform and enrich our appreciation for a system of medicine that sees the mind as inextricably linked to all phenomena, particularly illness and wellness. The teachings of Dr. Tsering, a master of Tibetan medicine trained in a long lineage of masters and disciples in the art of healing, will nurture our understanding of the contribution that plants and herbs have to offer and will generate a stronger appreciation of the power, nobility and depth of the natural world. ABOUT DOCTOR TSERING CHOZOMRenowned yet humble, a physician of traditional Tibetan medicine, Dr. Tsering Chozom began his medical training with Dr. Khyndrab Norbu, studying the Mentsikhang lineage of Tibetan medicine at the Tibetan Medical Institute. At the age of 17, Dr. Tsering began his apprenticeship with Lama Kunga Tsewang in Riwoche from eastern Tibet, studying the lineage of Mipham Rinpoche. Since his master’s passing in 1997, Dr. Tsering has lived and practiced in Pharping, Nepal serving as primary physician to many great Buddhist masters of this age including His Holiness Jadral Rinpoche, His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rinpoche and His Eminence the late Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, as well as the local community at large. In recognition of his great skill and qualities of compassion and empathy, Dr. Tsering has been invited to establish many medical practices throughout India and Nepal. Dr. Tsering has chosen instead to stay in Pharping, traveling back and forth to Kathmandu to bring benefit to his patients in need. Dr. Tsering was invited to Los Angeles for the first time in 2004 by the Venerable Lama Chödak Gyatso Nubpa Rinpoche.
